The straight pipe shouldn't be a problem. Makes them sound good. Everything you said plus I would replace all of the fluids. Engine, hydraulics, rearend, radiator. He can tell a lot about it by looking at the condition of all of these fluids. Be prepared to start replacing gaskets and seals once everything is filled back up. My C had set for years and once I changed all of the fluids I had leaks all over the place. Nothing major, just a lot of drips. It would also be a good time to check the front wheel bearings and re-pack them. If he is a decent mechanic he will do all of this plus some more. For the price of a valve cover and pan gasket he can check both the top and bottom ends. With the pan off he can do a quick check of the rod and main bearings and do a visual check of the cylinder bores.
