The 1256 was DT407, had Cat III hitch, wider bull gears & bigger 14" clutch, 1456 had wider bull gears, better ring & pinion gear set, bigger brakes, 3.5 axles as well bigger or heavier bearings, engine was DT407 with bigger wrist pins, (They say thats what makes a diesel noise is wrist pin flex), inj pump splined drive, 856 was a 806 with D407, had same drive train almost exactly, serial number changes reflect gear tooth angle in power train in entire 756/856 series, transmisions and TA were all the same with a few bearings sizes and matching shafts.
