It will NOT be on the clutch housing. If it is a very early model, it may be on the pedal guard below the brake pedals as ihkovas indicated. Otherwise, it should be on the inside of the left-hand seat bracket. My '40 B serial number plate is on the seat bracket. You can also check out the engine serial number, which is located on a raised boss on the right-hand side of the block, below #1 plug, kinda behind the magneto. On the early models, it would be the same as the tractor serial number. '39's & '40's can also be indentified by the Dzeus fasteners on the hood, instead of the later "J" hooks.
