As far as oil goes, I'll pretty much agree with you, Cowman. Though I wouldn't be using some el cheapo re-refined special or anything like that. He didn't say where he lives, but I'd not be using that 15W-40 year-around if he lives up in the high north climates. It has to flow in the winter as well as the summer. 10W-30 detergent should work just fine. Maybe 10W-40 if the tractor uses oil when it is warmer. Yup, you hit the nail on the head. Keep it changed. Contaminated oil will cause wear faster than using the wrong oil.
