Horsepower hint from model number

It seems with many of the older, numbered IH tractor models, you can guess the approximate horsepower from the model number by replacing the last two digits with a 0. 1066 -> 100, 656 -> 60, 340 -> 30, etc. There are a few where it is a little off, like the 350 is actually 42 horsepower, but I've used this rule of thumb to get a mental image of IH models I haven't seen. This little rule breaks down with the Hydro models and the later 3xxx, 4xxx, etc. models (which by the way no one around here seems to have--its like in the 1960's someone threw a switch and any tractors around here newer than that are John Deeres--but no shortage of older IHs though.) Short of just 'knowing' the IH models, is there any rule to help relate the Hydros and late 4 digit models to their horsepower?
