MD starter removal/question about overdrive

I recently purchased an MD. The starter needs to be pulled off but will not come of unless the belt pulley is removed. I was just wondering if the belt pulley was an option that could be added in the factory. I wouldn't think they would make them with the starter in their that tight. This tractor also has an overdrive on it. Can anybody tell me how this works. Thanks, Adam
