For the last several days I have been mulling over a small tractor design in my head. I have thought of making a steel C-channel frame and using a 20 or 25 HP engine to drive a hydraulic pump and then use all the needed valves and use hydraulic motors for the rear drive wheels. I would have an enormous amount of thought and engineering to put into it but on a direct cost I am pretty sure I can do this for under $5,000. You may have seen those kit cars where you get a 20HP VW engine and basically weld up a roll cage and you have a souped up go cart. But think of using a hydraulic system to do the same thing only instead of built for speed it would be built for torque. What do you guys think, should I go ahead and start designing it or say screw it.? It would be all hydraulic.
