An old farmer close to me retired and he had a near immaculate 484. He used to pull a 7 shank pasture aerator, harrow with it and move round bales. Really worked it pretty good but maintained it. A guy bought it but he had it for sale shortly after that himself. He was asking 6500 and had no takers at that. I don't know if he still has it but noone was really interested at that price. I think it is about a 45 HP. My closest neighbor was looking to buy a small tractor in the early 70's. He looked at a IH 454 and a JD 1020 and he went with the JD because of the fuel cell design on IH. I guess they tended to leak, puncture and give trouble. Those years are a two piece bolted together cell behind the seat, incorporated into the rear fenders. I also don't like the CAT I 3 point hookup on those years. Seems a little weak to me but it depends entirly on what you are gonna use it for. I would say they are great little tractors other than that.
