SMTA coolant leak

I have a coolant leak coming out of the water pump, obviously I need some more packing. I've got the radiator and shroud off, taken off the two bolts with springs on the fan, and that's as far as I've gotten. How hard should that pin be to get out? I've taken off the nut and tapped it a few times, but it won't budge, and I don't want to break anything. Then what do I do?
