'49 cub head

I am new to the tractor world, couple of questions 1-replaced head gasket on cub, and soon as i filled radiator, had fluid coming out everywhere! followed IT manual,torqued to 45, started snug, then 20, 30, 40,45 and around 2 more times for good measure, could i have over done it, gonna pull head in the morning and take to machine shop to have it resurfaced. any other ideas? these cubs are fun but alot of maintenance, no problems with my super a's or b's or super c. thanks shaun
