snap ring found in rearend of 3414

I have a 3414 back hoe loader,I took off the cover under the seat to replace the gasget and gear oil,I found a broken snap ring in the bottom it's about 1 1/2 " external. everything works fine. just would like to know where it might have went. any suggestions appreciated
