After extensive research today here are the results. WD40 and mineral spirits don't work. A cleaner that contains trichloroethane will work. Two brand name specific products Gunk's brakeclean and RM paint Polymax reducer worked on a crayon that was applied this year. Also a lot of rubbing required. Non of them worked on crayon from 6 or 7 years ago. Anything that did work also made the rag the same colour as the paint but that may have been only the oxidized layer. I would have to agree with Bill Smith do not let any auction ringman mark your item on the paint. Dealers write the serial number in big numbers so they don't have to get all greasy checking the numbers for inventory. Thanks for the tips. BTW Bama Binder envious of my machinery with good paint. I don't have GPS because I would have to buy a tractor with a 12 Volt system.
