There is a strange problem with the engine starter on my 806 Gas tractor. About half of the time when I try to start the engine, I hear a clashing sound and the starter gear does not engage with the flywheel. Usually the next time I try this the starter works normally. I think the clashing sound comes from the starter gear trying to engage with the flywheel gear. The gear teeth on the starter and flywheel are not broken. I inspected them. So, I replaced the starter solenoid with a new one. The problem did not improve. I know that the starter gear slides freely on the starter motor shaft because I could move it by hand when I had it apart. This causes me to wonder if there is a starter relay that isn't making a complete connection when engaging the starter. I looked the tractor wiring over, and I can't find a starter relay, although it seems that there may be one inside of the housing that the solenoid and starter motor attach to. I wish I had a wiring diagram for this tractor, but every maintenance manual I ever bought for it does not include a wiring diagram. So, my questions are: 1. What do you think is causing this problem and how should I solve it? I would not be opposed to buying a rebuilt starter. 2. If anyone knows where I can get a wiring diagram for this tractor, Please let me know.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
