Bought a Cub Cadet mower from TSC last year for around the house- chucked a deck belt last night. Went to TSC, they had 5 tractors just like it out front....60 belts on the the hooks, but no deck belt stocked for their most popular mower...hafta order it.
Stopped by Lowes on my way back to the house- they don't carry cub cadet, but belt had an MTD part # on it so let's give it a try. STocked about 10 belts, had the 098 front and center- and $10 cheaper than TSC. Maybe I've been buying the wrong stuff at the wrong place?

Bought some chain hooks and rings at TSC in Warrenton, couple days later found the exact brand at the Co-op for 75% less. Won"t do that again. I also seem to always need the item that is supposed to be on an empty hook at TSC.

Was just at TSC little bit ago. Needed 2 3pt hitch balls for Oliver-they had one. Also needed the spring loaded pin for a PTO yoke. They a few but not one I needed. I figure the empty hook held the one I needed. Stopped at New Holland dealer on way home-they had one that would work (it's for a Gehl). Anyhow, I think they are slipping bad. Rural King here has a lot more but is harder to get to.

As far as a riding mower I think I would go to a real dealer. Support a local business owner instead of making mega-corporation richer while they pay their employees starvation wages.

We now have a TSC. I'm not too impressed with them.If it is late Sunday afternoon and they are the only one open they will do.They are like all the rest of the big box stores. You have to know what you are after because there is no one at the store that can help you.

I got a replacement Woods RM59 belt at the dealer- $73. Later I discovered Agri Supply has the same belt for $11!! I wrote that dealer off.

I went to TSC and they had a seat for my TO35. Didn"t buy it. Went back a couple of days later, the seat had been sold. Asked when they would be getting the next shipment. I was told that they had no idea, they never knew what was going to be on the TSC truck when it showed up.

My PBR went up 20% to $5.99. I can live with the high fuel prices but to raise the price mof my beer is unconscionable!!!! Cutting back on drivingf is one thing...

Speaking of belts, I started mowing this season out next to the road where the snow plow had scraped off a bunch of gravel into the grass and it really dulled the blades on the Woods RM 59 finish mower. I knew I should have taken them off and sharpened them but, I was in a hurry so the belt broke and a trip 36 miles to the parts place and $68+ for my bad judgement. Best keep your blades sharp or get in line behind me at the belt store. Belt doesn't look very heavy to drive three blades. ohfred

Last fall, bought barn door track and harware at TSC. Went on up to Lowe's for something. Well--same stuff--same models, same numbers, same maufacturer--40% less at Lowe's. Turned around and took it back to TSC without getting a speeding ticket! TSC cahsier just smiled as she gave me the refund and said she didn't buy much stuff at TSC either!

Not enough time to get into the TSC "spin" about why they didn't have a muffler for a John Deere B in stock!

Lowes here dropped Cub Cadet 2 years ago and most all parts. Some TSC stores here a joke for any parts while next one with better manager has all kinds of parts or great order service. Mostly depends on your area or store managers. Parts and belts from TSC can have OEM name on them or MTD and doesn't really matter as MTD owns and makes Cub Cadet, White, Troy Bilt and some others under special trade names for others. The kevlar belts made for mowers stand up better than cheap ones and some mowers use metric size belts and others won't fit right and throw off so better to get the right belts.

There ain't a whole heckuva lot that I'd need a service department for with a lawn tractor. The damn things are made to be almost disposable anyway...metal dumpsters at the dump are full of 'em every weekend.

Finally had enough money to get a 14 foot gate for the garden lot.Didnt need fuel oil.Checked TSC web site, found 2 gates that would work.100 bucks.Had a 10% discount coupon good till May 20.TSC is 35 miles away,10.00 would pay for gas used, almost.Called the store, gave # for 1 gate, not in stock. Can order.I ask about the second gate that I like better. She says cant order that one. they just show up.I ask if I can use the coupon and mail payment for the gate I dont like and order. Cant use the coupon because the gate wont get here before May 20.I say to hell with it and give my wife 40.00 of the gate money because she is broke til next week. She says find a store that wants to sell a gate and we will go pick it up next week.

i was getting less than a year out of the damn aluminum housings that hold the blade shafts (mandrels, in the catelog) on the craftsman! That's why I bout the cub in a moment of weakness- real live steel.
If ya bust one of those aluminum deals, get 'em on line for about 12 bucks compared to 58 at sears..

I mowed several acres for 20 years with a Craftsman 18hp tractor. I replaced 2 belts, one because it broke, and the other as a pm measure. I still use it, although I recently got a zero turn because it is faster. I changed the oil and filters once a year. Can't complain.

To add to this TSC rant, I loaned my post hole digger to one of the guys I work with a couple weeks ago. I bought this digger new at TSC 4 years ago. He had to drill 4 holes. Half way into the first hole he hooked a rock and both crosses in the PTO universals snapped. The shear bolt only sheared 1/2 way. He loaded it in to his truck and took it to the TSC store where I bought it to get replacement crosses. The store manager looked at it and claimed TSC never sold the type of unit even though it has TSC decals on it and I have the receipt for it. OF COURSE long story short, they didn't have parts and wouldn't bother to look in the book. Al rigged up another power shaft to get done. The next day he stopped at the local INDEPENDENT farm store and they had 2 of these on the shelf. They are metric. TSC 'the stuff you need' (if your way out there !)

Some places sell belts at 100% markup. It pays to shop around.Gates co sells a green belt that does last longer.Fellow told me years ago to stay away from a store that sell antifreeze at low cost and then sell a womans blouse for triple its real worth. This is done by a big store today.

Mtd builds a lot of riding mowers with different brand name, most ive seen a cheapos.I saw 2 different mowers yesterday one for 900.00, a different color and name for 1200.00.I looked them over ,they were identical in every way.I was at wal mart to pick up my prescription. They make you wait 20 minutes so you will buy something in the store.I wandered over to the beer case to get my monthly pak.It has gone from 5.57 to 6.74.
