I was wondering if anyone knows the first tractor to be equipped with a power take off and what was the first implement made to run on the tractor's power take off. Just curious.

I've just been reading an article on the history of PTO, in the 'Australian Grain' magazine. The information pretty much goes along with what others have said. The article by Dr. Graeme Quick, says: "Arguably, the first tractor PTO was on the French Gougis tractor in 1907. In 1919, the International Harvester Company began experimenting with PTO-equipped International 8-16s, and in 1921, the PTO became available on special order for Model 15-30.
The 1924 Farmall 'Regular' had the PTO as an integral part of the tractor's design."
The article also says that early PTO on mobil equipment was a chain driven Aveling and Porter Bell reaper of 1878. Around the same time, in California, George Stockton Berry built a combine, powered by steam drawn from the traction engine via flexable hoses.

I believe IH 8-16, for which a special tractor binder was developed about 1918. I believe that the idea came from an experiment in France with a tractor driving a binder. The McCormick Deering 10-20 and 15-30 were available with a PTO attachment from start of production and the first Farmalls and right through the F-20, F30 and F-12 had a pto as standard fitting.

My guess would be the threshing machine was one of the first if not the first machine to run off a belt pulley. Which in my opinion would be a early form of a PTO.

IH 8-16 with a binder, maybe? Seems like I read that somewhere.

if i had so guess, i'd say a mower. I'd also say i think it was a McCormick-Deering 10-20 or a 15-30 or something

I have a 1930 John Deere GP Wide Tread and it has a PTO shaft facing the front and the rear. I'm sure its not the first for a PTO shaft but it may be the only model with a shaft facing fore and aft.

Our 1930 Gp Standard also has this setup. I know that for the Gp it was an option, and also it could later be added on.
