In Feb of 07 I bought a new computer when my old one started having problems. Glad I had the insight to buy the extended warranty. I just tore it down again to take it in for the third time since I've had it. Needed to print some stuff off for the legal battle we are in regarding my FIL's estate and no video on the monitor. Had this same problem last month. Computer is worthless if you have a black screen. By God's grace, I had the foresight to burn a cd with the info I need. Think I'll have a chat with the manager about the computer.

I bought a computer at Best Buy with the extended warrantee. The CD drive failed and I took it back to the store. I told them it had a bad CD drive. They said it would be ready in a week. I went back after a week and they said, "Oh no, we never said that, we send them to a shop in Chicago, it will back after a month".

When they had had it for a month, they called to say that they had found out what was wrong. It had a bad CD drive, and they would have to order it, and it would take a week to get the part from their supplier. Another week after that I had my computer back.

What sort of computer shop doesn't stock normal parts, and where were they ordering parts that shipped parts ground?

The extended warrantee is only as good as the company backing it. Best Buy has got very little of my money since then.

Using an UPS and lightening/suge protection? Up to date virus, spyware and firewall protection? Have to replace one of mine. Didn"t think of raising them off the floor for flood protection. New computer is going to be anything except Microsoft.

It can be extremely frustrating when a computer conks out... Last time my laptop quit I lost many pictures that can never be replaced - since then I've made a habit of uploading the keepers to a couple different websites to be sure that I can always get them back.

My Dell Inspiron 2650 was bought in October of 2001 and has been wiped two or three times and has had one new hard drive about a year or so ago. I keep wanting a new one, but as long as this one keeps working I keep using it... :)

I lost my entire accounting program a month or so ago in mine. Turns out it was just a loose cable inside of it.

About a year ago a talk radio money guru said extended warrantys are a waste of money EXCEPT for computers. I guess you're finding out he's right. Good luck, what little patience I do have goes out the window when the computer acts up, so I sympathize with you. Jim

Your guru doesn"t know my luck with electronics. Bought a Toshiba digital camera about 4 yrs ago, no extended warranty. Paid over $400. It died after 18 mos. Could find dozens of them on Ebay with same prob, Toshiba refused to do anything. $150 just to look at it. I now call it Trashiba. Feb 06 bought a Canon A520 and extended warranty. Feb 07 sent in for repair, lens cover wouldn"t open completely. Last week sent it back for repair for the same thing. Cost $105. Ext. warranty supposed to pay. We"ll see. Not paying anything until I get the check from ext. warranty.

Not the monitor. Plugged up the monitor from the other computer, same black screen. When I picked it up from being "fixed" for this the first time, the tech did not inspire my confidence with this statement "We never really found out what was wrong. We were fooling around with it and it started working again." Thanks a lot! Its a 40 mile round trip drive to take it back. Don't much think they'll pay my gas. I know you catch more flies with honey that vinegar, so I'll be sweet, but firm, with the manager.

Talk to the Manufacturer I bet they will give you a new one if you complain if they don't take out and ad in the paper or on Tv and tell the world how bad it they are.

won't kick the computer, but might kick the tech who worked on it for this same problem about a month ago. When I picked it up, he said "we don't really know what was wrong with it. We were fooling around with it and it started working."

does it give you any beeps when you turn it on like one long beep followed by three short ones?

Bad video should give you the beeps
Bad logic board will give you nothing

I've had the reset button bet stuck on cheaper cases which gives the same symptoms your describing
