I'm just curious. I know they were used in combines.

I think that several tractors used the Chrysler 6 cyl engines. One I have personally seen is a Custom Mopdel B tractor (I think the Simpson was similar mechanically), and that engine is a sweet sounding piece of equipment.

Hi Rich Iowa.

Where did you see that tractor at? Moss Bros. In Dallas Center had a tractor like that. I knew the guy from Granger who built that tractor. It was a slant 6 in a CA AC. He also put a wide front end on it. He did every thing except some of the machine work. He had a wedge shaped spacer made to turn the manifoldes upside down. Exauhst on top, carb on bottom. He showed it at Waukee one year. Moss sold it and I saw it over at the Marshall Town show, some guy over that way bought it. Theodore also put a Chrysler 331 hemi in a WD AC, looked like factory. That man was a great mechanic and a mopar man and mechanic. Slant 6 was never put in a tractor from the factory, just the flatheads. Custom put a Chrysler straight 8 in some of his tractors. I have seen one. Massey 300 combine had a slant 6.

Thanks. Charley.

Yes, I owned a Massey combine with the slant six-300 model. Nice combine but was awful small, I think only a 30 inch cylinder. But it sure would pure along nice.

Ran them on irrigation pumps and keep the oil changed it didn't take much at overhaul time usually just valves and back with standard rings and maybe a water pump. Oh yeah had to keep a few of those plastic distributor gears on hand. Usually sheared off when a rain killed the engine.

I have a Massey 36 swather with a slant six. We swathed about fifteen hundred acres every year and it still has original engine. Only thing we did was put a couple carb kits in and regular tune-ups. Never had any of the covers off. In fact I have a 36 for parts with a good one in it I wpuld like to put in a tractor someday.

I remember seeing a Cockshutt 50 that someone had tried to put a slant six in. They made quite a mess of that tractor.

About 5-6 years ago when I was still in high school, I was looking at tractors on a dealers lot and saw an Allis Chalmers with a slant six in it, I want to say it was a AC C but I could be wrong. The salesman said an old guy traded that in, said it basically dropped right in and really woke that little tractor up.

Those slant 6"s were good engines. I put 1/4 million miles on one in a Volare. Rreplaced darned near everything on the outside of the engine a time or two but never had the rocker cover or oil pan off. well I did have to replace the rocker cover gasket once.

Changing the starter was a 15 min job hanging over the fender :)
Good thing too , they seemed to last about 50K.
