One of the best combines ever built. My Dad had a two different 960s I remember him saying they were easiest combines to set for any grain. I never ran it but I know that we were hardly ever broke down. One problem I do remember with them was the drive axels were weak, in the many years we had these I remember three axels breaking. Not good on grain heads when this happens. Other than that I can remember no major problems with these combines.

Many, many, many moons ago, there were a lot of Case combine in our area. One guy had a JD cornhead on a 800? Said that it didn't take much modification to get it to work, throat was the same width, just had to change something on the drive. They quit making them a long time ago, can you still get parts for them or do you need several donor machines setting around? Good luck, Chris

We had a 960. Nice smooth running machine. excellant in wheat. we had a 13ft. platform. never had a corn head but I think there was a 2 row wide or 3 row narrow avail. Traded for a F2 Gleaner which was much better machine.

My uncle has two of those 960's, they use a chrysler 225 slant six engine. They can be fitted with a case 2 row corn head, but there is no 4 row available, the 2 row fit all the case combines from the 600-960 if i remember right. Not sure where you will find one this one is not for sale and i am half way across the country from you. They are fairly simple machines, but in my opinion not built as well as a john deere 95 of the same time period. They have about the same capacity as a john deere 55 but were suppose to keep up with a 95 depends who you are talking too. Good luck whatever you decide, might want to go to the combine forum they know more than i do.

Been many years and I am not sure of models. It might have a Case 800 or 830 tractor engine. Mine was a 830 gas. Good machine for their day. In the feeder (center of the platform) mine had teeth that had some kind of rubber mount that got wore and banged around a bit. If the platform is rusted you will have a devil of a time getting it to feed till it gets shined up. Kennyp

they did make a corn head for them but i don't know where you can find one. i've got a 2 case 660's and think they're really good machines. one thing to pay attention to is the unloading auger has a stub shaft that flexes where it just comes out of the grain tank on both of mine the bolts came out that holds the bearing in for the stub shaft and stripped the casting threads. other than that i cant think of any problems with them. check for the usual wear areas. good luck case made a great combine.

We had a Case 960. It had a Chrysler Slant 6 engine, I'm guessing 225 cu. in. The combine was sure nice to drive, steered well and turned short, variable speed worked well. For the width of cylinder it did not have the capacity of some other makes. This I think was due to the relatively small diameter of the cylinder (which in our case was rub bar type). I understand that if you had a spike tooth cylinder, then you added capacity. This was not a choice for us as we were picking up wheat/barley/oats/canola swaths and even a small stone would do a pile of damage to stc. I was never satisfied with the way the feeder chain fed the cylinder. Ours burned in a shed fire, was replaced with 914 IH PT which was 2 to 3 times the machine as long as you had the hp to run it.
