I was recently trying to start my 9n. It has the button starter that is mounted in front of the gear shift lever. After about the 6th or 7th time, I pushed the start button and absolutely nothing happened. The engine would not even turn over now. I hooked up jumper cables to the battery thinking that might be it, but to no avail. However, when I would push the start button I could hear my other tractor, the one I was using as a jump, rev down as if power were being pulled from it. Could the silanoid switch have suddenly gone bad? I dont have a clue. Any suggestions would be helpful...Thanks

What you describe happens to me all the time with my 1955 Ford 600. Plain and simple, your battery is too far dead. Even with jumper cables or a battery charger connected mine won't turn over. Put it on a charger for a couple of hours and she works just fine. (Helps to have the heater plugged in during that time as well!) I don't like to leave my heater plugged in since I don't start my tractor very often in the winter. Which is another reason why the battery doesn't have a very strong charge in the winter..... .

If you are in a cold climate then you would benefit from a heater or two. I have a in-line heater for the radiator. You can also get an oil heater.

Also pay attention to the voltage on your 9N. Are you running 6 volt or 12 volt? I run the original 6 volt. You shouldn't jump a 6 volt battery with a 12 volt tractor.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking maybe the battery was just to weak. It is definately a 12 volt. I will have the battery tested and go from there..

Sounds like either the bendex has locked up on the flywheel or the start has burned out on you. Either way to check that you will need to pull the starter off and the best way to check the starter to see if its bad is to take it to an auto parts store most have a test bench just for testing starters and its free to have it checked

I also have a 9N and seem to remember something like that happening some time ago.

If you put your post on the "N" board you will probably have the problem nailed down quicker. Those guys know the N's inside and out.

Good luck.
