Three broken valve springs lead to pulling the head. Found all kinds of coolant sludge in the head and block. I dropped the pan and pulled a rod cap. It was just started wearing into the copper. So at that point I figured to rebuild the engine. Took the block crank and camshaft up to the local engine machine shop to have things checked out. the biggest task at hand is getting the block boiled out.

Hi there;
Looks as though you know what you are doing - hurry and finish. Then you can come over for a vacation. We can show you the sea & mountains, and some different farming & castles.

P.S. dont forget to bring your tool box over - I've got a 1961 Fordson Super Major that needs the same treatment ! LoL

Cheers David

What you are dealing with is one of those guys that says "if it aint broke don't fix it". Some people just do not do any maintenance, like changing the coolant, using top quality oil, good filters, etc. Glad to see you are doing a real "rescue" on the ole girl. How about the clutch, pressure plate, throw out, etc. gonna fix that too?? Tom

Consider:

A in the 50's most farmers followed the proceedure of drain in the fall an fresh water in the spring. Unless it ran hot, then what ever water was available got added.

B you are, most likely, looking at places that ain't seen daylight since 1951.

C your rebuild will prolly last another 56 years.

Not too bad, not bad at all really.

One thing I'd recommend is that you use a longer length of chain bolted to the block. You're putting a tremendous amount of loading on both the block and the chain when you have it at such a wide angle as you do. That or move the two ends of the chain closer together, maybe instead of hooking at the rear of the block you could move that bolt to one of the holes between cylinders #5 & 6.

That's the first thing that came to me also, you need a longer chain on that thing or put some angle iron on that lift to spread the load out some. You might be putting a lot of load on those bolts in a manner they never planned on...
