Plastic headlight lenses... cleaning???

My wife's Jeep has so much road grime or some sort of buildup on the headlight lenses it's affecting night driving.
What has been found to clean these? I've tried rubbing compound with my polishing apparatus on my Dremel tool didn't work. Scotch-brite pad on a die grinder does take it off but I'm concerned it may be taking too much off LOL. Various household cleaners, S.O.S. pads, have all been tried.
Anyone with other ideas?

OK,I did this just the other day.
I wet sanded the lens with 1000 grit paper and followed with mild rubbing compound and polish after that.Turned out like new.~brad

I have had success with Bon Ami, Soft Scrub, and a product called Bartenders Friend or something like that. I restored a sandblasted windshield with Soft Scrub. It took several applications, but it did work. I used the same products on the headlights with excellent results. I have heard that there is a product at Autozone for this, but I have never seen it. Local Bumper to Bumper auto parts store has a kit called "PPL" for polishing plastic headlamp lenses and it includes polishing compound and the buffing pad to use in your electric drill to buff out these lenses and other plastic parts. Gene

They make polishes for plastic windshields in aircraft that will help. If auto supply or paint stores don't have it try Eastwood restoration supply or Aircraft Spruce on a search. I got some from a local paint store to polish visor on helmet so motorcycle places might have it too?

Aloha, If it is plastic, I had good results using jewlers rouge and a wool buffing pad. Don"t run the buffer too fast or it will burn the plastic.

Go to Auto Zone. They have a liquid that will clean those headlight lenses quite well. I was skeptical at first, but used it on my 1990 Chevy truck and it cleaned them up pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. Other places probably have it too, but I found it at Auto Zone.

I have used the Autozone stuff too. It requires some elbow grease, but works good. It is a scratch remover for clear coat and plexiglass. Unfortunatley I don't remember the name.

It's usaually the fact that they are sand blasted from driving. Probably nothing you can do,however I do have a 4 inch grinder or possibly one of my tire grinders.LOL Tell her it's because she follows to close they always like that.

I use a plastic cleaner made by permatex (part # 403D). Same stuff used on A/C windshields.
