Hi;
This is the unit on a parade in the town, shows the crawler with lifeboat on the tracked launching trailer.
If anyone wants to see more photos & information on the lifeboats here is the website address for Llandudno in North Wales. www.llandudnolifeboat.org.uk
click onto "photographs" and you will see loads of photos of the boats, crew, launching & equipment the RNLI uses.
Cheers David

Any idea what kind of powerplant is in the tractor? How high of surf it can operate in? Looks like the windows in the cab are armored like the pilothouse of a boat. Sure is an interesting rig. john

I think those crawlers use a Caterpillar engine, they are purpose built for the job, from my memorys of living in England the driver can get out of the cab roof and close everything off including the exhaust and air intake and go back to the tractor when the tide goes out if they get into trouble. Those tractors replaced a fleet of waterproofed Fowler Challenger 3 crawlers which is the tractor I remember when I was a kid living in Sheringham on the north Norfolk coast, they in turn replaced Case (LA trators I think) that had Roadless tracks and were also waterproofed. The crews are volunteers and some have made the ultimate sacrifice to help ships crews in trouble
