I have previously posted these photos on the Orphans Board, and have gotten some responses.

I thought I'd take the liberty of posting this here, too, hoping someone who frequents this board will recognize it. The seat, steering wheel and controls have been "farmerized" because the tractor was operated in reverse, with a rear-mounted loader.

I found the serial # on the Co-op today:

D-3-183

Can anyone interpret his?

Thanks for any help!

Bob:As I (slowly) sort thru an avalanche of information (remember Fibber McGee's closet?) it appears your "real" CO-OP(ie, Chrysler/Dodge Ind eng, Dodge HD/2Ton/Clark trans, Link-Belt chain reduction gear, Dodge Trk/Clark final drive)(take your pick)was one of the last "real" CO-OPs(as opposed to Cockshutt Co-ops), almost certainly built at the Minn/St Paul factory...unless it was built at Shelbyville...but absolutely not at Battle Creek or Arthurdale...unless...no, absolutely not, really...
Seriously, will try to get updated email off, correcting all the wrong guesses in the first, but it is definitely a D-3...it has to be...

North central ND.

The truck belongs to a neigbor. It is a GMC with a V-6, and the flywheel came loose from the crank, either lost it's bolts, or something broke. He decided NOT to have us tear into it.

Email with any other questions.

The way I understand things some how Co-Op had somethimg to do with Oliver or Oliver had some thing to do with them. I don't know how the relation ship was but they where so how connected. Common to see old Allises set up that way for loader machines. Also there where a lot of fork lifts set up on tractors like that. I worked for a place at one time that had a ford tractor fork lift. If I remember right it was set up on a 600 series tractor.

Years ago they used tractor forklifts like that at the saw mills. They were off brand and painted yellow. Never did see one in good shape, beat up and smoking. I guess they would let anyone drive it and every once in a while a stack of lumber would fall on it.

Reminds me of a Hoyt-Clagwell on the old green acres show. All seriously, I have only ever heard of a CO-OP tractor. Never seen one til this morning.

Coop and Gamble's tractors were often relabeled Cockshut, sometimes made in Canada.

The Co-op tractors from late 40's on were Cockshutts, made in Canada, re-labled and painted orange for sale in the US through Farmer's Union, I think. The one in the picture is before that time- They weren't built by either Cockshutt or Oliver- they were an "assembled" tractor- the previous poster is right about the Chrysler engine, and I think the transmission was Chrysler as well. I'll try to remember to look it up, but someone may come on and fill in that information.
