The trouble with old tractors isn't the tractors.

It's the fact that your idea of right and the prior owner's idea of right often are two entirely different things. :>(

Bought this old tractor 'cause it was so mechanically "sound". Just a darned good old, well-kept tractor. Okay fine.

Noticed the "water cooler" mounted on the roof; didn't really give it much thought. I was worried more about the tractor itself and if it had been taken care of.

Bottom of the story line, I get all done putting in a new floor mat, flushing the heater core and insulating the cab from one end to the other. Put on a new muffler to shut that engine up; all done and head for the farm.

Well, it had snowed here the other day and there was a lot of water up on top of the roof. Darned thing "rained" on me for a mile, leaking out of that silly water cooler mounted up there!

Evidently, the Air conditioner had quit and the fella had just found it cheaper to disable it and buy one of these water cooler thingys.

Sorry, it's gotta go. When I find the time, it's back to the salvage yard to find two condenser motors with fans and mounting hardware. I want the original A/C back.

Geeeze! Seems like it is always something.

Its a bit far, but I know where a good cab is sitting. It has all the A/C stuff you need. The compressor is still hooked to the hoses and laying on the cab floor. Its in central Indiana.

What's that lashup on the right fender? Looks like some hydraulic handles, mounted outside the cab- might be a tad inconvenient for the operator? Or is it the top of a set of golf clubs, in the back corner of the cab? I'm just not up on all these latest farming methods. . .

So you finally bought a new toy. I kinda had you figgured on an 86 series this time so you could get a better cab. I know a fellow who did an easier fix than that on his Year-round cab on his 1466, he broke most of the windows out when the A/C wasn't working so air would come in from outdoors. Those tractors sure do bellar without a muffler, but I was told you lose 10-15hp on those tractors by running a muffler. You can have a blast at the farm pull with that one Allen, all you need to do is get your screwdriver out and crank her up to around 200hp and go.

Well while you are shopping for a new roof watch for one for a Hiniker cab. It don't look too swell with roofing tin.

Mornin Allan

Not familiar with the water cooler thinky but on my 86 series there are drain tubes to carry the evaporated water from the ceiling area to the bottom and out of the cab.

If those tubes get plugged then it runs inside of the cab.

Got to keep those tubes cleaned out.

Yepper,

I'm familiar with those darned drain hoses. :>)

This gizmo is a completely separate thing mounted clear back behind the original A/C and heater box. They've cut a hole in the roof and mounted it in there with a silicone sealer all the way around. I'll have to make another plate to cover this one-foot-square hole and add some sound deadening material.

All of the original air conditioning stuff is there except those condenser motors/fans, the compressor/belt, hoses and mounting bracket.

Think I know what happened. Somebody probably told him that it would take a small fortune to convert it to R-134a and fix the original problem too. Think he just opted for a cheaper fix.

However, I don't think it would be too much of a chore to get air back to 'er; just the hassel of rounding up all of the missing parts and throwin' it back together again.

If you can't find those condensors and fans you might consider going to a auto yard and digging up a condensor that would go in front of the radiator, you can end up with something a lot newer and by pass those condensor fans. I did that with my White. The condensor fans always quit on me and my condensor never got air through like it does now. Besides, on a system that old it is better just to rebuild the whole system anyways, almost guarantee ya that those hoses heading up to the condensor are leeking anyways.

Yes you will like the air.

Neighbor has air in a 1466 and likes it.

You may have to make a trip south of you to the bone yard.

I wanted to stop there and look around on our way home but I got a nasty look from the passenger seat and she reached over and straighten the steering wheel out when I attemped to turn in there.
