In NE Kansas a good running 1456 with everything working showing 6,000 to 10,000 hours usually runs between $6500 and $8500. Poor condition (but still "running") can go as low as $1800.

My brother is looking at trading a 1456, good tires (about 1000 hours), painted in the last three years, overhauled engine and about 7100 hours on it. He bought it in 2001 for $5,000 did all the listed work and has been offered $9000 trade on a 7120 at a dealership. Hard to tell what is actually being allowed in trade.

I'm to the point where I have no idea as to the value of anything. This tractor might be a bargain to some folks.
Just came from eBay where I was looking at a 2006 Ford pickup for the buy-it-now price of $96,000.00!! (OK...it's a F650 crewcab with a 8 ft. box; but it's still a pickup.)

Well, I have a 1256 that I'd let you steal for around $10,000 then.

Ain't now way even if it was never used and wrapped in plastic . as with a fresh Sherman and Williams overhaul there is no paint job worth that much and as for the two 1206's at best 8 grand and they would have to be perfect But people will pay anyamount just to say i bought it for this much. even though i have turnd down some big money on my S/MTA it is the fact that i just don't want to sell it i let big money take one of my toys after i spent a bunch of time fixen it the way i wanted it . So when i kick the bucket then ya can fight over my stuff and pay what ever ya want.

Well, considering there are (2) 1206's for $19,000, I would say value is in the eye of the beholder, or the few that have millions that need to bay ag equipment to avoid the capital gain taxes.

Were you looking for a 1066 IH? Have one that came in on the lot.

Allan,

Always appreciate your posts. Would you mind giving me a private e-mail. My wife is looking for some sort of home based business to get into and I remember that you and your missus have a thriving concern. Just was hoping you could give us a little insight (without giving away any trade secrets of course).

Thanks,

Kirk (kirkgrau@yahoo.com)

Kirk, Allan, Nebraska Cowman and others I know have home based businesses and are making them work. It is a great thing to do and there are perks to it. Please be aware right off the bat though that it will be much more work than it appears to be. Family and friends will figure since you are home you really aren't working.. so it is OK to just stop in and visit a while. The IRS isn't a deficit in your weekly check. They lean over your shoulder and your checkbook. Can your insurance handle a situation if a customer thinks you screwed up? When in business for yourself you have to be much more customer oriented than large businesses because you don't have the power of mass advertising, just word of mouth. Every customer counts BIG in a small business. Wall mart doesn't worry about ticking off one shopper, it may be a make or break situation for you. Being in business for you too means giving up a 9-5 schedule and most probably many weekends. Most businesses take a couple of years or more to start turning a profit. Make sure you can handle that or a cut in disposable income for a while. Self-employment takes discipline that most people develop to late to keep their business afloat. I don't want to be Mr. Negative. I hope you find your home business. There is not much more rewarding an experience than to be self-sufficient and not have to play office politics. Please just enter it with eyes wide open and be prepared to make a lot of personal sacrifices before walking into the Lexis dealership. Good luck! It took me years to settle into my business. On hindsight it should have happened long ago, but then, I wasn't ready then for the commitment I have made now.
