I"m going to be looking at tool cabinets/boxes and the next few days. Any suggestions?? From what I"ve seen so far they can get awful expensive. I"m not looking for anything huge or major, just something that"ll roll on my carport, have some storage in the bottom for like antifreeze jugs and stuff, and of course room for my tools. Maybe a 2 peice unit?? Probaby gonna be in the $250 to $500 range, although that seems like a lot to me, everything is just so expensive anymore....

Thanks,
Casey

I got my setup at Harbor Freight, it is one of the few things they sell that is worth the price.
You can easily get it for $400 minus a 20% discount if you search the web for it.
This thing is huge and is heavy duty.

Try E-bay there is a lot of tool boxes on there. Just type in tool boxes on the search.

If I were you I would run to Sears (I am not familiar with the Costco units) and buy the cheapest one that has enough storage for you. The toolbox is not going to make you any more money than if you put your tools in a five gallon bucket. 99.5 percent of the time it will not roll around either. Therefore if you can handle not having the drawers slide out like glass, the cheap ones will work for you. I went this route and saved a ton. I may have to replace it once in my lifetime but I figure I can do that and still be ahead. You also might want to look into some of the online companies. I bought one for my school through Grizzly industrial that is decent, was reasonable in price and came with a NAPA sticker plate on it.

They cost an arm and leg for the new ones that or any good. I got both of the ones I have at auctions and have less the $200 in them. One is just a top box and the other one is a triple on wheels and I think I got the bigger of the 2 for around $75 at an auction. Troulbe is now days if you buy one for say $250 its junk from the get go so you need to spend $700 plus to get one that is worht it.

Bought all of my boxes at auctions or military surplus. Check around your area for a surplus or used tool dealer.

I managed to snag a couple decent Craftsmen ones used via Craigslist.

If you live near a metro area, that can quite active -- there's a tool section.

I think I paid $200 for a large ball-bearing top box, and a decent slider but non-bearing bottom. Terrific for my light use, and a lot more box then I could've gotten brandy new.

Took me a couple weeks of cruising the list to find the right price / box /availability.

If I had it to do over, I would really consider the stainless steel units sold at Costco. They look good and the price is hard to beat new.

If you are going to be leaving your tools in a shop where you work with other mechanics, you probably want a pro type box, like a snap-on or mac, that will lock very securely and protect your investment. Occasionally I see used pro boxes for sale in the newspaper, which might be the way to go if you can find some that meet your needs at the right price.

For use at home, most anything works OK. Most of my mechanic tower came from Sears, and it works fine. I also have scrounged a bunch of old metal file cabinets that were surplussed by the school district for $10 each. They make it easy to find things and are especially good for larger portable tools. Good luck!

I got mine at auctions, mismatched but works fine. I wouldnt put antifreeze or any of that in the bottom. If its closed you get humidity, and either way you may cause rust. I built a shelve as hi as I could reach to put that stuff on. Grandkids, visitors etc cant get to it and gives me a reason to stretch once in a while. my thoughts--
