Get rid of the goofy "one-wire" alternator, and replace it with an "off-the-shelf" Delco 1OSI alternator, with standard, as-original internal parts.

First make sure it really is overcharging. Check voltage at the battery posts. It should be between 13.5 and 15 volts. 14.2 volts is ideal, but reality is that many of the regulators do run close to 15 volts. If the voltage is well above 15 volts and the one wire alternator is a Delco 10SI,then you need to replace the Diode trio and regulator with a new "one wire" regulator from your auto parts supplier or generator/starter shop.

Take it to an auto parts store and have it checked. Most of the time when an alternator does that it needs to be rebuilt
