We received another nice soaking last night, but this one came with a serious price:

Every bit of the sweet corn was flattened. It looks as if it's trying to upright itself this morning, but if not it will end up cattle feed. The tomato cages were also knocked over. The sweet corn was only a week or two away from being ready.

The only thing that stayed up was the pole bean fencing. It must be stronger than I thought!

All in all, though, I can't complain. We've had more than enough rain this year, and the pastures are full of grass. I guess I'll just consider the sweet corn a sacrifice demanded by the farming gods.

Try running a combine through several 100 acres of that type of field corn - last year got 80+ mph wind blast, whole neighborhood had a real difficult harvest.....

If the corn is already pollinated, then leave it alone, it will continue to mature, just be a bear to pick with it all on the ground, we been throught the same thing, the corn had already pollinated, so all the ears had to do was finish filling out and we still got a good amount of corn off it.

In Clark county and guessing (not an expert opinion)we will have a bumper crop of corn and beans this year. It's raining as we speak but not like that.
