This year we didn't get much rain. I planted some corn anyway. It is about 3 ft. tall now. During the hot day's the leaves curl up, but in the morning the plants look good. I don't remember the plants doing this other years. Do corn plants usually do this in hot weather? Or is it just the lack of moisture. My water melons in the same field are doing good. Stan

Stan,

You're right on the money. The plant is under stress from the lack of moisture, so it curls on hot days to protect itself. Normal.

However, if it starts to fire the lower leaves, this is when the plant is showing signs of really being in trouble.

Dry weather causes the leaves to curl. This is usual and also used to describe how dry things are. Makes the people who are making their living this way nervous.

The plant is shutting down and trying to slow the Tranpiration rate by reducing the surface area exposed to the sun.
