I have been reading about filling tractor tires with windshield washer fluid and others.. I think it would help me out quite a bit in the summer, as I pull logs every now and then.. whats the best/cheapest thing to fill them with? and whats the best way to do it? put the valve at the top of the tire and use a small hose and funnel?
thanks! Tim Shultz

Tim,

Personal opinion time.

I think filling tires with old antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, beet juice, mom and pop’s new year"s eve recipe and the like is just plain silly.

If you need the ballast, call your local tire shop and have "em come fill the tires with chloride and be done with it.

Allan

I've got to agree with you, Allan. As long as the tubes aren't leaking, the CACL can't hurt anything. And it's HEAVY, compared to washer fluid.

I wonder if the guy has looked into beet juice?

Supposed to be HEAVY, and not corrosive.

The cheapest stuff I have found is the wind shield wiper fluid. As far as filling them send me an e-mail and I'll send you a page from a 1935 owner manual that tells you 2 or 3 ways to fill them.

I don't know how you figure it is cheaper to use windsheild washer fluid to fill a tire when your talken a 115 gallon times two and you are not getting the weight that four or five bags of cal. is adding to it something like 11.5 or 12.5 lbs to the gallon now if ya got a gas wellor oilwell use that stuff as it runs around 11.5 lbs to the gal. If i am loading a tire on a working tractor i want it as heavy as it can be and the olny tractors that do not loaded tire are the one 706 as we use it for culivating mowen and sprayen and lite towen when it come time to pull sliage wagons then that job falls on the 806 and it is weighen in at 12000 and that at times is not heavy enough.

He asked that wouldn't harm animals or hurt the rims. Sorry CACL yes is the cheapest by far but rusts rims like crazy. BTDT to many time and thats why I have 10 or so rims out in the junk pile that aren't worth any thing but scrap iron.

Well if one is leaking then ya got to fix it not just keep putting air in it if a tire is going down all the time and ya see that there is wetness around the stem or bead then it must have a hole in it . IF they don't leak then they don't rust.

Oh I understand that but some how it seems most people don't. I'd say 40% of the tractor I buy have problems with rims because of the CACL that was in the tube and the people woul;d just add air and not fix thetube till it was to late for thr rim
