Can any one tell me what the 10 gallon milk cans in the40's and 50' were made of. Were they stainless or galvanized? I understand that cutting galvanized steel gives of Toxic fumes. Any comments on the subject will be appreciated. Thank you.

Just curious why you want to cut them up?

My guess is that they are steel, some galvanized, some tinned.

in response to Bob about cutting up milk cans. a friend is drawing wild life scenes on milk cans and then cutting the outlines with a plasma cutter and then installs a light inside. Looks pretty nice. The problemis he is haaving head aches lately. Could toxic fumes be the problem. Just wondering.

Steel. They were tinned, like solder. Every now and then they were re-tinned.

Are cans still in use where you are? They got the boot here in Ontario in 1977.
