Looking for a good used backhoe

The past year I have been in the search of a good used tractor loader backhoe that is reasonably priced. I am not familiar with backhoes and it will be my first owned backhoe. I have been looking at Case & John Deere models. I noticed that Case 680CK/E/K are cheaper than 580C/D/E, even though 680 is a bigger machine. Do the 680 models have known mechanical problems? Does anyone have a backhoe for sale in the PA or neighboring states area?

don't know where you are- but if your near the north east, and already have a tractor, I have a pippen 4 lever hoe attachment that will fit a 50hp or larger tractor- it must have the frame attached by bolting up to the rear axil and to plates on the front after that is 4 pt hitch- it is a full size hoe and not used that much, and easier to get used to than the 2 lever, I think anyway and could save you a lot of money.we have 65 yrs of stuff to move to make room,

Bigger machines are more apt to become stuck in wet conditions..Lighter is better here.. Bigger machines are made for heavy digging as in sewer lines , water lines , etc..Many large machines have had hammers or tampers used on them causing extreme wear on hydraulics , pins and bushings , etc..Smaller machines are more easily used in cramped areas.. Lighter trailer can be used for moving backhoe.. I made the mistake of buying for my first backhoe a Ford 5500. That pig got me in more trouble than not.. After that I got a 4 year old Ford 4500.. What a difference..... ..

Greetings to pennstate1, just where are you in PA?? Ever hear of Lancaster Farming newspaper??
Sometimes it is an inch or more thick and just is loaded with equipment ads!! With lots of loader and backhoe tractors listed by individuals and dealers. Worth checking out. As far as Case's, seems that you see a lot of 'em out there digging away. As far as pros & cons on individual models, someone else will have to write in and offer good advice. Good Luck.
