Hello,

Does anyone know of any uses for this engine other than in a locomotive? I will be coming into a few of them and if I knew what they were used for, I would probably be better able to find some buyers.

Thanks.

The D17000 was used for power generation and stationary engine applications, cotton gins, fishing boats, irrigation pumps, large hoists, etc, as well as switcher locomotive applications. It was never used in a crawler tractor, too big. A big engine for 190 HP, and a real beast. I have a 1942 CAT brochure describing it, dimensions, HP, etc. The D13000 was a straight six, evolved into the D342 that powered CAT D8's for a long time. I wouldnt mind having one of them in my back yard, hooked up to a generator or something..

I got my info about the D-9 from an antique Cat site, so I am assuming it is correct. It did say they went to a different engine because of the weight problem.

I guess I will keep my eyes open for where these motors and engines would get the most money.

Thanks for the input.

The D-9 had a different engine, it was a straight six with a turbo, it evolved into the D-343.
