Here's my $99 Harbor freight crane mounted on the RH front of my 04 PJ trailer.

That sort of looks like what I have on the side of the bed on my truck, but mine sits lower. I do need to set up some sort of out rigger for my truck or one of these days I'm going to lay it over on its side LOL

GOOD LOOKING JOB!!!

I don't know if jknapper had anymore pictures posted. This is the only one I found to repost for him.

You might holler at "jknapper" and see if he has anymore picture or would take a few more of things under trailer. And of his mounting system.

The only thing I can see is that he needs some outriggers on the crane side of trailer to keep it from twisting the frame when lifting heavy items...

Wow! CQQL looki'n, sure would be nice to see the "detail" of a closer look of underneath, and how it was "intergrated" to the frame no doubt

the mounted crane is a good idea

we are having an unusually warm winter here in Texas, and no rain,it is strange

Best of this New Year to everyone!

Hopefully he's lined up one of the brackets with at least one of the cross frames and another "cripple frame" is installed to line up with the other. If this isn't done, heavy crane loads may twist the side angles.

Just bought one (the blue & yellow part) 10 hours ago. Was wondering how I would mount it. Was there an earlier thread, or closer pictures, or???? Thanks.

Thanks for posting that. You can see more pics @>Link

Click>Link next and there are 2 more pics. Tomorrow or the next day, there will pics of it in action.

I see people asking about out-riggers. In one of the close-ups, you'll see there are 2 rows of c-channel for trailer frame, so I'm not too worried about it twisting. I figure if I know I'll be lifting something large, I'll bring my floor jack and put under it, which is what I did last night when I was trying to pick up a HUGE log. The crane would not lift it, so had to abort that operation and cut the log (actually willow tree trunk) up some more. One reason I didn't want to put a outrigger on there is I was afraid after lifting something heavy and putting it on the trailer, not being able to get the out-rigger up. So if in the future I find myself lifting lots of heavy pieces, instead of hauling my floor jack, I'm gonna weld one of those scissor car jacks on the bottom side of the crane mount. That way, if I'm gonna lift something heavy, then I just screw the jack down, do the lifting, then screw the jack back up, and it would stay right with the crane.

the plating is 3/8" thick. it is a square 10 5/8". For the gussets, I just took another 10 5/8 square, and cut it diagnolly and welded it all on.

Tonight I'll take more detailed pics of everything - including the crane in action. There are still some heavy pieces to lift. THe willow tree was over 60' tall. I got it down to only 10', then had to hire someone w/ 36" chain saw to cut it at the base. They also cut it in half, but should of had them slice it in 2' chunks. Then I had the stump ground out. only $200, however, when the guy showed up, he said he should of estimated $400-$500. The base of the tree was 7' across, and if you look at all the pics, from root to root, they ground 17'

Here is a picture of my outrigger and dimentions.

main tube is 1 1/2 with 3/8 in holes drilled 1 apart. Slide is made from 2 inch tubing with 2 inch OD round tubing 5 inches long welded to the square tube. I welded 2 1/4 square tubing underside of trailer trailer frame.

With the round sliding inside square tubing, if load brings weight down to hard on outrigger foot all I do is either drive forward or backup off my outriggers.

I do not pin my outrigger so they will turn, and are easily removed.HTH

Upon further investigation, I don't believe I need any support under that brace. Because of the 2 rows of c-channel, and the 3/8" bracing, I believe there is adequate support to lift 1000 pounds. I believe the failure point is in the sleave that holds the crane. The crane slides inside that sleave, which allows it to swivel. I believe if lifting something that is too heavy (like I did yesterday), that sleave is going to at best become oval shape, and at worst, break. To solve that in the future, I will hook a strap to the pivot point at the top of the crane, and hook the other end of the strap to the other side of the trailer. that will keep the crane at a 90 degree angle with the trailer, thus not warping the swivel-sleeve.

Now my dilema is finding my digital camera to take pics. I had it last night, but now I don't know what I did with it :(
