I'd go with a Cummins over a 3208 throwaway anyday, but Kinze is at 319-668-1300, Jim Spaid. Cummins- Steve Mallicoat at 319-366-7537. One thing to watch for is governed speed of the engine you want to use- should match close to the original. OK, someone will criticize me for calling the 3208 a throwaway- but they didn't earn that rep for nothing. Better Cat choices exist.

recently a 619 complete, but needing a rebuild, was on pulloff for around 1200.00, and other than moving the radiator forward an inch and 1/2, to clear the 619 water pump, a very simple exchange.

Jon Kinzenbauw (Kinze implement company in Iowa)knows all about swapping different engines into 5020's. I think he'd advise against swapping in a 3208, tho. That is just not as heavy duty an engine as it would take to make it worth while. If you like the 3208, look for an Oliver 2255 or a White 2-180 or 4-150 (4WD) these are very well built tractors that would not cost more then the swap (unless you DIY), and then rebuild the Deere 531 which would keep the collector value and it would run as good, probably lug better than the 3208 anyway. excuse the long rambling post but it intrigued me. Good luck with that, anyway.

The cross breed swap costs just enough to drop the price of the tractor to $200.00 per ton of clean scrap metal. Deere 531 and 619 engines are cheap, plentiful and are a direct bolt in.
