I was wondering if any of you have had the speedometer trouble I'm having. The needle bounces while driving down the road and on stopping and starting it chokes out , have to gun it to get going and causes engine miss. A local shop said it has to be replaced but they won't put a warranty on it and the way they explained it, it is a bunch of crap to do. It is the electronic kind , no cable, 95 model. I like the truck. Any ideas? or experience on this??

those electronic clusters on those f-series will be haunting ford for along time. we replace them all the time. is your rig gas or diesel? does it have a tach? lastly, do you live in the usa or canada? i"ll give you a part number and a price. ford will warranty it when you replace it, provided you use their parts. let me know!

I live in Houston and its a gas 5.8 with out the tach. The last time I talked with anyone it seemed expensive for the cluster. I can put it in. But I am asking myself is it worth it, the truck is in good shape other than that.Auto trans AOD metric.

To further Casey's thoughts being you have an auto with the od. does the od light flash any thats a sure sign of the sensor in the rear axle. David

sorry, i just read your post alittle closer. have you tried the speed/abs sensor in the rear axle yet? it's about 25 bucks at the dealer. can't recall the part number at the moment, not at work anymore. that sensor will cause the speedo to act weird. when i looked at the clusters for a rough idea they were around 300 bucks.

I replaced the external sensor on top of the rear axle, that did not solve the problem . I was also told that there is a magnetic disc in the axle that could be bad which feeds the sensor. I just can't understand why anthing electric works or it don't. The cruise don't work either because the needle bounces and gives false info to the computer . Makes engine race up and down. I'll have to find a shop I can trust to run some test and then go from there and many thanks neighbors.
