Trying to lift a head of a 4 cyl. MH44 gas engine, seems to bind at the front, is it possible that its rusted onto a dowl pin? Trying to be gentle with it so nothing breaks, any thoughts? Dan in AB

Have not had one off in 20 years, but there are 2 if I remember small bolts in the area of the thermostat housing that need to be removed also. I have also seen guys break those heads if they did not do that,

make sure all the bolts are out and if can turn over, crank it...the piston pressure will pop it.

This may be a bad idea, but - how about putting her in gear and pulling the tractor just enough to turn over the motor... ?????
... or would that damage the block??
Seems to me you'll have to get the stuck piston out of that hole somehow....

Hi Dan,

I would soak it in vinegar as vinegar disolves rust, about 24hrs to 48hrs, and turns it into iron oxide, a black goo that will wash off with water.

Me, I would looking for a bolt I missed some where.
