I have a 12 volt Lucas starter off a Fordson Major Diesel...will I find that any starter shop can rebuild this, or will parts be hard to find since it says Made in England?

Cosmo, this ain't rocket science here. Lucas is a very common starter and any competent auto electrical shop will do it for you or he may have one laying on the shelf he'll trade. Good luck...

Thanks BobMo, but I think your statement should have been addressed to Thimothee. He's the one asking, I'm the one who had it done at the auto shop. Regards, Cosmo

I had the local automotive starter shop redo mine last year. (FE35 Lucas) Charged the outrageous price of $28 and change.

Any competent starter shop can easily rebuild it. The parts should be easily obtainable through the NewHolland network, including the Case/IH network, as International used a lot of these starters as well on their Doncaster assembled tractors.
Generally speaking, only minor repairs are made to these starters, such as brushes or bushings and cleanings. For the most part, they're failry cheap to buy new from NewHolland, so you can't justify spending much on an old one. If I can't have it fixed for 50 bucks, then I toss it. The lucas was a very common starter. Check around on new pricing. Best of luck.

I often see Lucas starters listed on eBay. Right now an eBay seller in Ohio has one listed with a "Buy-it-Now" price of $99.50 plus shipping; go to eBay auction number 3807358844 for details.
