I am wondering if anyone can give me some help with my old IHC 9 tractor. It runs but has some fuel issues. The final fuel filter is full of fuel and does what it is suppose to however, the primary filter does not. The lines are clean and everything. When I run the tractor and try to bleed the thing I can't get fuel into that filter unless I open the bottom valve on the filter and the air valve on the top. When fuel runs out of the bottom I close the top and then the bottom eventually stops flowing too. The tractor misses when running on diesel and it appears as if the injectors are all working. It also appears that there is some fuel coming thru the exhaust that is not getting burned. I need to get this issue resolved so I can move to the next step of restoring this old power horse. Please advise with any help yo may have. Forever Red, maestro

Not real familair with the WD9 fuel system, but in general, this applies to diesels

You need to get all the air out of the system. I think the way I read your post, you are closing bleeders backwards. With the engine running, start closest to the tank, open the screw (or bolt) on top of the filter until fuel squirts out, close it, move on to the next, do the filters, the injection pump, then the injectors.

The old injectors (up until electronics took over) use the pressure pulse of the fuel injection pump to open the injector, any air in the line and the pulse is not correct, causing problems.

Does that make sense?

Sounds like you have a restriction between the tank and the primary filter. Take the line loose between the tank and the input to the filter base to see if it"s there. Does the water trap bleed OK? If not the restriction may be there. Fuel goes from the tank through the line to the water trap, then from the water trap to the primary filter. It should all bleed easily by gravity. Post back and let us know what you find. Brian
