I thought the sign of spring was the fire ants move out from under the rocks to the middle of the fields.

The first laker of the season banged its' way out of Owen Sound the other day, the icebreaker had to get him started, and he got into Goderich to pick up salt. We just got a bill for furnace oil at $466.75 for five weeks heating and that doesn't count the boys who think their names have been changed to "Get Wood". Just saw the first wedge of geese tramping around looking for open water of any kind. We always at least one dirty storm between now and the middle of April. Dad got lost in a 10 acre field while sowing barley on May 8, 1977 due to snow. I could hear him but not see him. Hell as a hot place was brought to us by folks in a desert culture. Hell is not hot. Ir is cold, cold, cold.

Glad for you. Been a weird winter here. Very mild through January, and progressively colder after that. We've still got snow on the ground, shaded dirt is frozen solid, down the 20's almost every night. Though the groundhogs are up and about.

Well Grand Paw always said..... ...
Once the pecan tree buds out you can plant with confidence.

I got 3 pecan trees in my yard and all of them are full of buds. Have been for a few days now.

Get ready because you know spring will be over soon. Then it will be 98° and 98% humidity.

Well, let's not hurry it here in central NY. Still got 2 weeks of sugaring to do. Wouldn't try to plant anything until Memorial Day. We're like you Bill, still a good bit of snow.

I'm jealous here mid michigan still foot of snow on the ground and it stinks. What I would give to be where you live and be planting a garden and be eating tomatoes by summer.Do you see many snakes where live there in Texas that would be the only drawback in my wife's book in living in Texas.thank you Jackson Knight

seems like I remember a year ago we got a freeze hard enough the hackberry trees lost their leaves and had to grow a 2nd set. But yeah, the grass is starting to grow. the hills are greener now than I have seen them get some years.

I'm sure you're right, John,

It got up to 45 here today and muddy. Wheat is tryin' to green up, but can't make up it's mind.

It better hurry up; I've had a belly full of this non-winter here. :>(

'Sides that, the wife needs to road an old open station tractor 10 miles; wouldn't want her to get cold. :>)

Allan, Was in the high Texas panhandle 2 Saturdays ago. .....
Plainview, Tx, Fruit trees in full bloom! Green ash, Elm, Redoaks.. in mid leaf
Amarillo, Tx, fruit trees were in bloom ...here&there, Elms and Green ash just starting to leaf out.
Dumas,Stratford, TX. just a few fruit trees blooming, ash and elms and red oaks full bud swell with a few little leaves peaking through. That was 2 weeks ago, Spring is creaping North faster than you know. As I said earlier...Take heart for it is darkest just before the Dawn.
Go get your Tomatoes and Peppers and get them started in the warmest place in the house or garage. Then when the last frost leaves you are ready. or youuuuu could..... .
Have a "Winter Defiance BBQ party" and wear Flowery Hiwarian shirts and get the BBQ going and drive old man winter away! Just a thought!
Later.
John A.

Ive got two homes, one in the boonies, one in the suburbs. Two nights ago my suburban neibor came knocking on my door. Didnt know what the animal was in his back yard, it was a possum. That means spring is here. My neibor up north would of had the crittwer in a pot. Thanks Lou

Spring sure ain't here either! Still got 4-5 feet of snow on the ground and more falling as I type. Had to go borrow a cat to clear snow along the fence line yesterday, two of the cows just walked right over the fence onto the highway. Was only a couple inches of fence sticking up in some places.
