Hey You Guys!

Last week I posted about a group of fellows who frequent this site, who live down south of me and who have offered to attend auctions and "do our bidding" by proxy for the wife and I since we cannot leave this office for any length of time because it runs 24/7.

Yesterday was auction day, I’m pacing the floor all day long, waitin' for the phone to ring and nailbiting as I go. :>(

Anyway, these guys performed flawlessly picking up the machinery that we needed at the two particular auctions that were going on yesterday. Prices came in just about as we expected and we are "all smiley faces" around here this morning.

The wife tells me that she is of the opinion that we've just found a new "guardian angel" when it comes to buying this old iron.

Just wanted to say thanks again for this site and you people. What a great bunch of folks you are!

Allan

Hi Jhill,

We picked up both a 6-30" row Lilliston roller cultivator along with the shields and a real nice 6-30" IH Cyclo 500 planter. Been lookin' a long time for ones that were in good shape.

Previous owners stated that both were used to work the '04 crop and the guys are just switching to 8 row equipment and this is the reason why they were sold.

Kicker is that both of these units are now "out of favor" with the big boys and can be bought fairly reasonable.

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

Hi John,

Oh heck no. Any questionable air sealing rubber wear items, lift cylinders and bearings on the planter, plus I'll probably have to look that pump and fan motor over pretty darned close as well, just to make sure they are not leaking.

Then, bearings as needed and a new set of duckfeet on the cultivator.

That's all they're gettin' from me. :>)

Glad to hear you are having luck. I've spent the last two saturdays at auctions, and have come home pretty much empty handed. Made a lone purchase of a armstrong post hole digger a week ago, and bought a hotdog yesterday. Will try again this coming saturday. Been coming up second high bidder everytime. Don

YT is the place... good for you and your wife! I felt your pacing in reading your words. I was wondring about if anyone does what yous do in so much as have us free-run-abouts to bid for people that can't get away, glad to hear there is a working sysytem out there. I have cell, toll feee number and freewill travel and would like to connect to those in need. Some good auctions coming up in Saskatchewan, Canada in April that have fine oid iron looking for a good home, I'm going, start the bidding and bow out after $300 (emptypockets' budget)...

I'm glad it worked out, Allan.

This site is like our own "virtual" Mayberry. Good place to hang out.

Dug

BTW - Fixed the Farmhand yesterday. Picked up a couple loads of brush and it works like a charm. Thanks again for your part in putting it back together.

Allan,

I picked up a cultivator for you yesterday. This way, you don't have to use that nasty looking red thing you posted on "Using your tractor". Got an 8 row and a 6 row. Found a Deere "rotary Hoe" for ya too.

Send check made payable to..... .

John

Hi Buddy!

Thanks for the offer, but you are way outta my league. I'm just a little guy tryin' to scrounge.

Look again, the cultivator isn't red. Been lookin' two years for that rascal and a 6-30” 500 Cyclo planter; Finally got 'em, thanks to these boys! :>)

I haven't got two nickels to rub together; hence the reason for the old iron route. :>(

We don't even use cultivators anymore. Everything is no-till. I take those 8 row and 6 row units and cut them down into 2 and 4 row units. They sell good around here for gardeners and food plot growers, along with the tobacco growers. I have a 2 row cultivator of my own for our sweetcorn and greenbean patch. Here it is.... It's a miniature version of the 8 row unit I hauled in yesterday.

John,

Well now, that's just cuter than a pimple on a bug's ear!

Help an old man out here, what's the mechanical apparatus going on at the rear of the cultivator, just to the left and out of the picture? What is that, a main gauge wheel or something?

Thanks,

Allan

Allan,

Those are plow coulters. That's the John Deere 416A plow I posted a pic of a few days ago, for the K&K tractor "decal" question.

I but 6 and 8 row planters, 6 and 8 row cultivators, then "down-size" them to 2 and 4 row units. The "yuppie gardeners" and food plot folks snatch 'em up as fast as I can crank 'em out. That 2 row cultivator is mine. That takes care of a 5 acre patch of sweetcorn, greenbeans, and and a few other crops we feed the family with.

It's ready for the paint shop next week. Gotta make it look all "new and shiney" like you do with all your stuff!

Well, if the office runs 24 X 7, when are you going to have time to use the equipment?

Hey Allan, when I eldiver your 806/M I can stay a couple of weeks and help you plant. Dad always jumped me about having a little wobble in the rows, but everybody knows you can get more corn in a crooked row than you can a straight row.:-) Harley

Hey,

Ya darned right! I've been tryin' to find an excuse to chew you out over somethin'. Crooked rows would danged sure do it. :>)

First order of business is to find the dirt; that's the big hunt and the main push right now. (So, I can go out and play farmer with my little toys).

It's kinda like an overgrown kid in a sandbox sort of thing. Heck, second childhoods aren't so bad. And, I'll bet it's cheaper than that darned Biagra stuff they advertise on TV. :>)
