I am trying to buy a 494a planter right now and need some advice on if i can take it apart in anyway to get it on a trailer that has sides about a foot tall. I understand that they are about 12-14" wide. I have a 16x7" trailer. I guess my question to yall is can the units be taken off and the hitch raised to get it loaded by hoisting it with a loader or something like that. Once i get it home I wont have any trouble getting it off it because I have access to a big hoist, its getting it on the trailer thats the problem. Please give me all sugestions that two men could do without a whole lot of trouble. If anyone knows the weight that would help too. Thanks in advance. Caleb in TX

Depending on if you have fenders on that would interfere. Take all boxes off, remove pin that sets planting depth, fold press wheels up, take markers off, one nut besides the lift chain on each one to take them off, put loading plankes on side rails, use tractor to push up ramps and drop wheels inside, if it has fertilizer on take off the fert openiers so that they won't hit side rail, fold toung up, pull pins that hold toung braces and remove bottom 2 bolts that hold toung and loosen top 2 bolts juct enough to lift toung, ahter it is on trailer put toung jack down and chain fast, put boxes in bed of truck and fasten down so lids do not blow out, 2 people less than an hour to load

The hitch will fold up and the jack will hold it up.it shouldn`t cost more than 50.00 to have a wrecker pick it up and back under it. kjm

If you could get ahold of a loader take the tounge off, lift planter up, back trailer under.
Good luck

from what i can remember of are old 494 we're talking 25 years ago here now ..is the tongue was fastened with 4 bolts u could remove the bottum two bolts and tongue would swing up for storage so u could take all four bolts out take tongue off for transport on your trailer leave the rest of the planter whole chain er down and go there was a stand that remained on the planter after tongue removed

perhaps take the seed boxes off simple job markers could be shortened or removed and take off the drive chains also simple job greasy one tho :)

Good Luck

load it side ways, may have to pay some body to lift it on for you
or you could take a couple 4x6 put under tires with cross pieces and then slide the whole unit sideways up on trailer
the hitch unbolts 4 bolts

If I remember you could also take off the seed boxes and loosen the press wheels to fold them over the missing seed boxes.
