Have a possible clutch problem with a 1997/98 570 with 450 hours. Was moving a round bale of hay today and as I started to climb a very slight incline, the tractor stopped pulling. I have not noticed any slippage or anything out of the ordinary in the past. A very very slight amount of torque can be noticed and a very slight slipping noise can be heard when the clutch is released. I did not smell anything like hot asbestos that could indicate slippage. The tractor goes into and out of gear normally. Anyone had a similar experience and what is the best method to isolate the problem. I know that clutch replacement would be very expensive and I do not want to pay to have the machine picked up and a clutch replaced until I am sure that is the problem.
Any advice and suggestions appreciated.

Good to see others are willing to help a person, and to clear the my thoughts: Used parts are a risk, but not knowing the owners location or situation[s] i mentioned them as a source. Every body and situation is different as is the quality of the used parts source, so buyer beware. I agree get the flywheel checked/turned maybe and do all the surgery possible when in that section of the tractor, shame to break them in two the first time, try to avoid a second time.
there should be lots of spec info available on the Belaurus web site
Hope we have helped in your efforts

Had the same thing happen on my 820,axle shaft key fell out.You can check real quick by stepping on the brakes one pedal at time ,if tractor trys to move, thats it.There is a small inspection cover on the bottom you can take off and look up in there if you do have a clutch problem.

I believe paul is right. I just put a clutch in my 825 not to long ago and I remember there being an inspection plate somewhere on the clutch housing but I would have to go look at the tractor to tell you where. I would look through the inspection hole first to see if you can determine if the clutch is the problem. If that is the problem, there are no shortcuts. The tractor will need to be split. Get the flywheel resurfaced when its apart as this will help your clutch plate to last longer. NEVER put used clutch parts from a junkyard back into your tractor. Go to your dealer or an aftermarket source and get rebuilt or new parts. A clutch and pressure plate for a Belarus isn't any more than one for a John Deere, Ford, IH, etc. Labor is the big factor and if you don't have it done right the first time, you will be paying to have done again very soon.

I am not exactly sure of your model but i have seen an 820[has keyed stub axles for width adjustment] be the same way; the "owner" called in a panic and it turned out to be he had stripped the key on one of his final drives/wheel hub connection. Since he has let the diff lock seize he couldn't use it to make it move; and the sheared key was letting the axle rotate as normal.
Also it is possible the clutch is no longer attached to it clutch plate, suspect the center plate rivits may have sheared, or actual plate rivits themselves. isn't there an adjustment/inspection cover on top of the tranny housing to take a look inside? In should be possible to put the unit in gear and rotate the engine by HAND from the front cranh bolt.[with a buddy doing the grunt work:)] TURN FUEL OFF and only rotate the engine enough to see the situation as needed.
Rebuilds are available and salvage yards may have one, check out a canadian supplier for better pricing with the dollar conversion on your parts?
example www, fawcett tractor.com i think is one place
good luck

Paul,
Thanks to you, I located the problem and the keyed stub had fallen out of the axle. I used the differential lock to get to the shed, backtracked and found the key. I welded a small bead on both ends of the key as a preventive measure to prevent future failures.
The clutch works fine.
The advice from all is much appreciated.
