Sometimes they place the spy-bots when you exit a site. this way you always think that its the site you are entering that has the spy-bot when actual the site that you where just at has the spy-bot. This way you return to the site. Pop ups are different however. The redirect pop up different ads once you enter a site thinking that some one will click on the close button.X Then you get two more popup. Tips for surfing to avoid spy-bots and popup. When searching at google I use the cached pages to see what will be on the site before clicking on the link to the site. This cached page is just the HTML that was returned to Google as the search the web for content. This is stored on googles site. Free of spy ware, worms, popups sometime the pages are somewhat out of date but I can first view what the page has to offer before going to the site. I the site has alot of banners and little content I just click back. If you do get popup adds don;'t click on the X that you usally do this will just let them know that you are there. At that time they will get your ip address and so forth. Having an ip address is so bad if you have a firewall up. Cost is very little. if they do have your ip address trust me there scanning your open ports. When you install software(ever gone to a site an been prompted to download some software) this software opens communication ports that are sometimes easy to hack and then they hack your computer to do there nasty work. They dont want you to know that they are there. This is why a fire wall is important. The ip address that you see on my messages is the ip address of my router. not my machine. You will be scanning ports of my fire wall not my machine.

Latest scam is an email that looks as if it comes from Ebay. Says that you need to click on the link and at that time you go to a false ebay site. Where they ask for your user name and password. Any user name and password will work. This is to build you up to belive that this is the true ebays site. You ask your self how would they know my user name and password? They then ask for credit card information and mothers madin name, brith dates, and so on. if you are asked to by ebay for information use a false password to make sure they do know your correct password

There are many bad people out there. so please think twice.

Other helpful tip. If ads pops up on the screen. Do not click on the box to close it. don't vote who you think should be president and you are never the 1,000,000 vistor of a site. Use the mouse and in the task bar while hovering over the tab for that site click the right mouse button and then close the ie explorer that was open by the popup.

Hi Steve,

Saw your "ne" and thought I'd hollar back.

Much of our business is run across the 'net and so of course, we have to be as careful as we can about fire walling, fighting viruses and trying to keep the bad guys out.

At any given time, we have something like 21 machines running and we've got 4 dishes up on the roof to access the ‘net via broadband serving satellites.

Point being is that I've been noticing that for the past couple of years these links are getting slower and slower and slower.

So, I get mad the other day and call tech support, ranting and raving about all the money we're spending on this broadband service and how it is now dragging like common a telephone dial up connection. I further accuse them of “throttling” our links.

The tech very calmly and politely runs all the necessary tests and goes thru the usual checklist. Come to find out, the problem lies here within our offices and our triple layered fire-walling.

But, whadda gonna do? If they want in badly enough, I think that they can get in..... .

It’s the age we live in, I guess

Allan

I too had the dishes on the roof but have now went to wireless lan it has far better connection, speed, cost and weather only effects it when the tower gets blown off the elevator. Yea if they want in badly enough, There's always a way. Take care Allen time to fight the bad guys

Hi Steve,

I'm out here in Chadron and so far out that we have no choice other than the satellites due to our huge transfer volumes.

Fact is, we are so far out here, that they have to pump sunlight to us! :>)

I asked the local cable provider when we would have service to our area, and he told me, “Never”. :>)

Hoping you have a good day,

Allan

Hey, Chadron is out there. Grew up in North Platte. Have traveled up to chadron a few times. I think the number of times that we actual meet someone traveling on the same road would be 2. You might not even see any cows along the road.

In order to remember your password (for posting with your registered name) YT has to set up a cookie on your computer. Most spyware software looks for cookies, and it may be finding that one and reporting it as spyware. If you are using Ad-aware, check the properties of the object. Just right click and I think it"s "display details" or somesuch. It will tell you quite a bit about it. If it"s from YT, it might even be identified as such.

Leland,

Look above your name in your post. Your dynamic IP address is there. It is just a way of tracking who is where and when they were there.

Happens all the time on the 'Net and from everywhere else in this world for that matter.

Make a phone call to anyone, anywhere from any phone. It is recorded. Send an email to anyone, anywhere. It is recorded. Walk into about any business anywhere. It is recorded.

I promise. :>)

Mornin' Leland,

I coulnd't remember the name of the outfit; but from what I understand, it keeps track of every electronic transmission in the world, not just us.

What's that they were talking about just a few short years ago? Big Brother? More like Big Father if ya ask me.

One of these days all individuals will probably be implanted with a tracking chip at birth. :>)

Similar problem here, I ran my Spybot search and destroy program. After doing so, now I have to register my handle every time I post, or reply to a post.
