decompression valve for starting

Wanting to make sure I am doing no harm by using the decompression valve to start my L210 Kubota. Turns over real slow if I don't use it and starts with lots of effort and black smoke. Using the decomp valve to increase revs makes a big difference in getting it started.

Manual not really helpful. Suggestions?

Thanks! Funny, but the guy I bought if from had an elaborate series of steps to start it that involved carb cleaner! The whole decomp valve seemed so easy that it HAD to be wrong. Glad for the advice.

Like others said, it's there for a reason and use it. You should see some of the wild *ss starts attempted on two cylinder diesel Deeres. Read the operator's manual. Yes, Mother Deere and other companies put that decompression lever there for YOU to use.

I ran a lot of tractor trailers and many of the Whites we had had a compression release. That is why they are there. Use it.

Go ahead and use the decomp valve while starting - that"s why it"s there!

Proper use is to pull the decomp knob first, then hit the starter. Let the engine roll 2 or 3 revolutions with the decomp open then push the knob back in. The engine will continue to crank fast and should fire right off.

No harm.Quite the opposite;it takes a great load off the starter and should make it last a lot longer.
