All jokes and rabid comments aside, it's your tractor. One serious comment though, don't use the tractor flywheel. They're just not up to the high rpm. Good luck.

Actually, there's quite a few of these around here. A week ago i saw a WD with a freshly put in 3.8L V6 out of a Monte Carlo in it. The guy said he used the stock WD fly wheel, drilling new holes in it to fit the V6. All else is stock, and it seems to run and work well to me.

He made the new motor mounts, and exaust and did a fairly nice job.

Is that his spare flywheel hanging there on the front? No BS intended, but drilling a 60-year-old cast-iron flywheel and spinning it twice it's designed RPM isn't terribly smart. I'd like to see a blanket on that tractor. Otherwise I wouldn't be standing too close to it.

Hello,
I just finished putting a 350 Oldsmobile & turbo 400 trans in an International W-9. It was fairly easy to convert. Total cost including the tractor was about $500. Tractor- $300 from wrecker
Engine & Trans- FREE, was laying around in a rusty Delta 88.
Steel for manufactuing - Free, had it laying around too.
Oil & filters, - $50
Set of guages - $100
Hardware -$50

This thing sure snorts and it a blast, have fun!
As long as your tractor can take the power, go for it!!

Back when I was a kid, I read a letter in a hot rod magazine where the writer asked if he could put an engine out of a Lincoln Continental into a Nash Rambler. Editor wrote back, And I remember it to this day, "You can put anything in anything if you use a big enough hammer!" 'Nuff said! But Why?

Barry, don`t let these Crackerheads give you any sh$t! I got a 38 WC with a 340 six pack and 727 tranny hooked (chain drive} to the 38 tranny. Its a little scary but Dang on sure fun. Think about what you want to do and go with it! I once had a Farmall H that had a chevy 402 in it, so anything is possible. RT

The fact you put that nasty little engine in your tractor is proof of the fact the "just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done". I'll bet it's scary alright!

I remember back in the sixties and seventies there was an allis on the pulling circuit that went by the name of "WHAT NEXT". I believe it was a WD, and basically was flipped upside down to get it closer to the ground. I don't remember what it used for an engine but it was definately a V-8. This tractor was quite the crowd pleaser. Does anyone remember this? Maybe could add some more info? I see nothing wrong with what Barry wants to do, there are plenty of Allis WDs out there. This one sounds like it may be fun.

Barry, I hope some one will give you the help you asked nicely for. I'm sorry it can't be me, but I will at least refrain from giving you a smart-a$$ed answer.

Good way to ruin a good tractor by making a jack-leg mess that will be worthless.

That's pretty much what the purists were saying about hot rods 30 years ago. Now, a decent hot rod is worth double what the same car in stock condition will bring, except for a few rare exceptions. As far as how to do it, look at adapting the AC bell housing to the Chevy engine with an adapter plate (3/8" plate, cut and drilled such that both the block and bell housing bolt to it).

A 454/502 will fit anywhere a 350 fits. Same adapter.

Just for the record, my response was not intended to be sarcastic, just a joke and pretty much a statement of fact. It's doable with enough time and money, however no one makes a ready-made kit to do this, the rest of the tractor is certainly not up to handling that kind of horsepower, and you probably couldn't put it to the ground if it would stand up to that horsepower. There are also a lot of potential safety issues involved, and I don't think anyone on here wants somebody getting hurt or killed. And it is butchering an antique tractor, but it's his money and tractor. The purists and correct-police will hound him whereever he takes it, but as long as he's okay with that, more power to him. WDs are about as common as dirt and I'm not an Allis man, so it's no skin off my back if he does it, but if he's thinking that this is going to be relatively easy, he's going to be disappointed. I think that's pretty much what everyone that's responded so far was trying to get across in their posts, regardless of how they worded it.

The "What Next" AC that was referred to I believe belonged to Tim Glassnap of Lytton, IA. I think he ran a big block Chevy in it. It was a nice appearing tractor and ran well on the Iowa Tractor Pulling circut. I'm pretty sure it had a Turbo 400 behind it. Most "Hot Rods" in the 70's and early 80's had an automatic between the engine and rear end. I had an Oliver 88 witn a blown 482 Chevy and a turbo 400 connected to the rear end by a double roller chain coupler. Loads of fun!!!
