JD 318 pull a York Rake?

I have a JD 318 and I wanted to pull a york rake with it. But which one, and will it work at all? I can rent a 6' or 4'. One 6' is for a 3 point hitch and weighs about 200 lbs. The tractor has a 3 pt hitch spaced 12 1/2 inches apart. The others bolt to the bottom plate and have a handle to pull it up and down.

I am hoping to be able to pull mounded dirt left over from last year's septic repair with it and flatten everything out. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Tim

Go here for some answers...

They can help you get set up with the right advice. Lots of info on attachments and JD garden tractors. The page loads slow if you're on dial-up connection.

I think your three 3pt hitch is category "0".
Make sure the rake you rent is for that type of hitch. The 4 foot rake would be the one to use.
You made want to add weights/liquid weight and tire chaines if you are running turf tires. You can get ag "bar" tires for the 318.

Tim, Grade first and remove big stones, rake is

to pick small stones and make seed bed. Trying

to grade with a rake will bend the teeth .

I think you are asking a lot. Definetly not the 6' maybe the 4 IF the dirt pile is loose. york rakes are really only meant for smothing rough spots and raking out stones. Pobably be better off renting a small utility tractor with a box blade. Renting the proper machine would be a lot cheaper than tearing up your 318
