What are the advantages and disadvantages od the finger planter and vacum planters? am looking at both and they are 3 years old. Which one causes the most problems? Thanks

I used the same 7000 finger planter for 23 years. last year used a 1760 vacum. they are both great.

I like my 1250 with the finger pick-up. The
plateless units demand a little more attention to
cleaning, but gives me very little trouble. I only plant small acreage now and I still use it
for beans. I prefer it over the drill. Just old
fashioned, I guess. (Better yields than my neighbor with his $$$$$$$$$ fancy no-till drill!)

I did have to smile this past year - my neighbor got a nearly new huge Case planter. He had a lot of trouble tweaking it up to get going right.

So I beat him in planting with my little old 7000.

And then I got 8bu an acre better yield too yet. Score one for the little guy. :)

The only disadvantage in a vacum I know of is if the system develops a leak! If this happens (and my memory serves me) even a small one can cause a complete system failure! The White planters use pressure, & they tout that even with severe leaks in theirs that the system continues to operate as normal!

The newest vacum planters get really percise seed placement.

A well adjusted finger planter has the technology & parts around forever, doesn't need electrical or a fan, and does a pretty good job.

I have finger. Don't see a need to go to vacum. Maybe if you are planting 5000 acres.
