Hi All,

When I was a kid, my dad had a nifty little device that he plugged a space heater into to control the temp of the warehouse where we stored potatoes in the winter time.

It was nothing more than a glorified 6' extension cord which incorporated a thermostat. He set the temperature setting on the thermostat, plugged the space heater into it's outlet and the thing would kick the heater on and off depending on the room temp.

Anyone know where I can find one of these gizmos?

Thanks,

Allan

Allan, check with your farm supply store, or any other place that sells those torpedo type heaters. I bought a new Redi-Heater a few years ago, the thermostat came with it. It works very well.

Since all of the space heaters I've seen have some sort of thermostat, I'm guessing that you're looking for something that will come on just above freezing. Most hardware stores have a device called a "heat tape thermostat". These are fixed to turn on at about 40 degrees F, and they only cost about ten bucks.

Hi Mark,

Boy, I'm really wrestlin' with myself over what type of heat to put in the garage. I know I'm gonna be out there a tinkerin' a lot.

I thought for now tho, that I'd just use the space heater tied to a thermostat of some kind for a temporary standin.

Trouble is, right now when I turn the thing on, in about 3 minutes it is too hot to work in there; no doubt, it will be better when I get all the insulation put up.

I'd better be for figurin' this out, 'cause we are going to be into winter before long. :>)

Thanks for the comeback,

Allan

I've got one that John Deere sold. I bought it when I was working for a dealer. It was an accessory for their oil-fired space heater.
