Hello, new to 8N's. I need to know why I have to stop my bushog completely before I put tractor in gear. Is this normal or does my clutch need work? I had an Allis Chalmers "C" and I could put it in gear regardless of bushhog speed. Thanks for your help

Dear Pfbed
The reason is that you have a transmission driven PTO and until The blades stop spinning, your drive shaft is still turning in the tractor. The over-running clutch mentioned in the other post will keep you from being pushed thru the fence or over the cliff and being killed.

The 8N only has a single clutch to operate both transmission and pto. Go to a ag supply or most any tractor parts business and get what is called a overrunning coupler. This will allow the cutter to free wheel without pushing the tractor. Be sure and measure the size of your pto shaft to get the right one. There are two sizes, 1 1/8 and 1 3/8 inch.
